About the role
This role exists to build a management layer that lets the business run day to day, freeing the owners to focus on strategic priorities and growth. This is a general operating leadership position with real trust attached to it, in a small, owner-run manufacturing business with room to grow as the business does.
Key responsibilities
- Assess product inventory, sales, upcoming events, to create the monthly / weekly production calendar; communicate the production schedule to ownership
- Run daily production-floor operations, including start- and end-of-day area inspections, leading daily task assignments and staff briefings
- Monitor and actively manage cacao and ingredient yield across production runs, identifying and addressing sources of waste or loss
- Track production efficiency and implement process improvements that reduce cost or waste without compromising quality
- Document and keep current standard operating procedures for each production step, and train staff to them
- Oversee the primary maintenance of equipment through cleaning, inspection, and minor repairs. Coordinate preventative maintenance schedule with external service providers for repair and calibration
- Oversee the inventory and procurement of production and packaging supplies, and raw materials, including final inspection and allocation to production
- Prepare and submit a weekly production report to ownership covering output against schedule, yield, and any quality or staffing issues
- Conduct and document quality inspections at each stage of production for GMP and sanitation adherence
- Approve recipes and batch parameters before production loading, approve product prior to packaging, and approve final packaging and product release to inventory
About you
- Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Engineering, or any relevant field, or equivalent practical experience
- 3+ years in a production, operations, or manufacturing management role, with direct accountability for output quality
- Demonstrated experience operating independently and making sound day-to-day decisions without needing every step reviewed upward
- Direct people-management experience: hiring, training, and running a team of 5+ staff day to day
- Working knowledge of inventory and procurement management
- Comfortable reviewing and managing the output of an administrative support function without executing it personally
- Comfortable and confident interacting directly with customers and vendors
- Willing to travel, including multi-day trips for trade fairs and company representation
- Experience using basic spreadsheets and standard software applications
- Comfortable communicating in English with owners, customers, and suppliers
