Offshore Real Estate Staff Accountant

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Offshore Real Estate Staff Accountant to support the accounting and reporting needs of a portfolio of U.S. real estate clients. The role focuses on property-level and entity-level books, monthly close, reconciliations, and reliable owner- and management-ready financials. The ideal candidate combines strong accrual accounting skills with practical experience using Yardi, AppFolio, or another property management system (PMS), and can bring accurate structure to complex or disorganized property records.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage recurring accounting and month-end close for multiple properties and legal entities, ensuring complete, accurate, and timely books.

• Work in Yardi, AppFolio, or comparable property management systems to review property activity, maintain accounting records, investigate exceptions, and support accurate reporting.

• Reconcile property operating, security-deposit, reserve, escrow, and other bank accounts; follow up on reconciling items and resolve variances.

• Record and reconcile rental income, tenant receivables, rent collections, prepaid rent, concessions, security deposits, and other tenant-related balances using supporting PMS reports.

• Process or review accounts payable and vendor activity, including invoice coding by property and account, payment support, vendor statement reconciliations, and accruals.

• Prepare and maintain property-level balance sheet reconciliations for cash, receivables, payables, deposits, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, debt, intercompany balances, and equity.

• Record recurring and adjusting journal entries for accruals, deferrals, debt activity, capital expenditures, depreciation, and other property-specific items.

• Support common area maintenance (CAM) and other tenant recoveries, including expense tracking, reconciliation support, and preparation of schedules for review.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual property and portfolio financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and supporting schedules.

• Assist with owner statements, budget-to-actual reporting, property performance schedules, and management reporting; investigate material fluctuations and explain findings clearly.

• Perform cleanup and catch-up work on incomplete or disorganized property books by researching historical transactions, correcting coding, reconciling prior-period balances, and documenting adjustments.

• Maintain property-specific charts of accounts, reporting structures, and close documentation; recommend practical improvements to accounting workflows and PMS data quality.

• Coordinate with onshore team members, property managers, and clients to obtain source documents, clarify transactions, and respond to accounting questions.

• Support year-end close, audit and lender requests, and tax-ready financial packages in coordination with the appropriate client contacts.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• At least 3 years of professional accounting experience, including meaningful exposure to real estate, property management, or property-level accounting.

• Hands-on experience with Yardi and/or AppFolio, or a comparable real estate property management system such as MRI, RealPage, Buildium, or similar.

• Strong working knowledge of accrual-basis accounting and U.S. GAAP, including the ability to identify and document appropriate adjusting entries.

• Demonstrated ability to complete monthly close and full balance sheet reconciliations independently, investigate variances, and meet deadlines.

• Experience supporting multiple properties, entities, clients, or reporting deadlines concurrently; outsourced accounting or multi-client experience is an advantage.

• Proficiency with cloud accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and reconciliation workpapers).

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and the ability to work professionally with U.S.-based clients and colleagues.

• Strong organization, discretion, and follow-through in a remote work environment; reliable high-speed internet and ability to overlap with U.S. business hours as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with commercial, multifamily, residential, or mixed-use real estate portfolios.

• Familiarity with property-level reporting, rent rolls, tenant ledgers, CAM reconciliations, loan and reserve schedules, and owner reporting.

• Experience with additional real estate, accounting, and workflow tools such as MRI, RealPage, Buildium, Sage, NetSuite, Bill.com, Dext, Karbon, or Keeper.

• Experience working with U.S.-based clients in an offshore or remote capacity.

• Exposure to budgeting, cash forecasting, lender reporting, property tax schedules, payroll, or 1099 compliance.
