Senior Accountant / Senior Manager

Location: Remote

Engagement: Full-time, independent contractor

Reports to: Partner group / leadership team

About the Role

We’re looking for a highly capable, senior-level accounting professional to join our public accounting firm and operate in a flexible, hands-on role. This person will function more like a Senior Manager at a national firm than a traditional staff accountant. The ideal candidate is a jack of all trades who can think independently, solve problems, add value, and step in wherever needed.

This role is best suited for someone who is confident, proactive, and comfortable working across a variety of client and firm needs without heavy handholding.

What You’ll Do

Manage a mix of accounting, tax, and advisory work

Review and prepare financial statements and review engagement files

Handle corporate and personal tax work

Support M&A transactions and due diligence projects

Assist with client communications by email and in meetings

Take notes during meetings and help translate discussions into action items

Review files and provide feedback or ideas

Act as a problem solver and “fixer” across different assignments

Work collaboratively with partners and team members in a nimble, fast-moving environment

What We’re Looking For

Senior-level accounting experience

Background in public accounting

Strong ability to think independently and solve problems

Comfortable bringing ideas forward and contributing in discussions

Able to work across different types of work, not just one narrow function

Confident reviewing files and handling complex work

Good written and verbal English skills

Comfortable joining meetings and communicating with internal team members and, over time, clients

Someone reliable, trustworthy, and able to hit the ground running

Preferred Experience

Experience with Caseware

Experience with TaxPrep

Exposure to financial statements, review engagements, tax, and transaction support

Experience in a firm environment similar to a Canadian public accounting practice

Working Style

Not a 9-to-5 role; schedule may vary depending on workload

Must be self-directed and able to manage time effectively

Should be comfortable being involved in meetings and following through independently

Nice to Have

Ability to contribute ideas and challenge assumptions thoughtfully

Experience in a senior manager-type role

Background with file review and broader firm operations

Strong initiative and comfort working through ambiguity
