Purpose
The Crowd TD / Technical Artist is responsible for developing and managing large-scale crowd simulations that enhance complex scenes in VFX or animation projects. This role focuses on combining technical expertise and creative problem-solving to build efficient, scalable, and visually compelling crowd systems within the production pipeline.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement crowd simulations and behavioral systems for large-scale scenes.
- Create scripts, tools, and automation processes to streamline crowd workflows.
- Collaborate with FX, animation, and pipeline teams to ensure seamless integration of crowd assets.
- Optimize crowd setups to improve simulation performance and rendering efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to crowd simulations and systems.
Qualifications/ Requirements of the job
- 3–7 years of experience as a Crowd TD or Technical Artist in VFX or animation production.
- Proficiency in Houdini, Maya, or other relevant 3D software used for crowd development.
- Strong scripting skills using Python, MEL, VEX, or similar languages.
- Solid understanding of large-scale simulation workflows and performance optimization.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
