Purpose
The Houdini FX Artist is responsible for creating high-quality visual effects simulations that enhance the overall production value of film, animation, or game projects. This role ensures that all FX outputs align with creative direction while maintaining technical efficiency and pipeline standards within a fast-paced production environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create high-quality simulations in Houdini, including fire, smoke, water, destruction, fluids, and other dynamic effects.
- Collaborate closely with VFX supervisors, artists, and other team members to meet production requirements and creative goals.
- Troubleshoot, refine, and optimize simulations to ensure efficiency within the production pipeline.
- Ensure all FX work is consistent with the project’s artistic direction while maintaining technical accuracy.
- Document simulation setups, processes, and workflows for reuse and knowledge sharing across the team.
- Maintain production-ready assets and ensure compliance with established pipeline standards.
Qualifications/ Requirements of the job
- 3–8 years of professional experience as a Houdini FX Artist in film, animation, or game production.
- Strong expertise in dynamics, particles, fluids, pyro, and rigid body simulations.
- Experience with rendering engines such as Mantra, Redshift, Arnold, or similar tools.
- Proven ability to work in a production environment and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of USD and pipeline integration is an advantage.
