STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Location: Remote
Working Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, Flexible (40 hours/week). Standard work hours are 7am –1pm EST with flexibility for the remaining hours.
Salary: $1,500–$1, 800 USD/month

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to support the preparation of full-scope bookkeepi ng services and accurate financial reporting for a portfolio of clients. This role is focused on producing complete and reliable financial information using internal reporting templates, with final review and presentation handled by the Accounting Manager.
The Staff Accountant will primarily work within the internal team at Focus Finance and Accounting, ensuring that financial data is complete, accurate, and ready for review.
This role goes beyond traditional bookkeeping and is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can think critically through complex issues, and enjoys helping lead and organize a growing team.
 
 
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Financial Reporting

• Prepare full-cycle bookkeeping for assigned clients, including maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records
• Complete bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Prepare monthly financial statements (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
• Ensure all supporting schedules and documentation are accurate and complete

Internal Review & Support

• Submit completed financial reports to the Accounting Manager for review , along with variance analysis and identification of potential client issues
• Address feedback, revisions, and adjustments as needed to finalize reporting packages
• Assist in identifying discrepancies or issues during the close process and support resolution

Collaboration & Client Interaction (Limited)

• Collaborate closely with internal team members to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met
• Communicate with clients as needed to resolve reconciliation issues, discrepancies, or clarify bookkeeping items
• Participate in occasional client discussions to support understanding of transactions or account activity (not responsible for presenting financials)
• Proactively identify and resolve issues before they escalate

Strong communication skills, accounting knowledge , and sound accounting judgment are essential for success in this role.
 
 
 
Requirements

• 5+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience with strong full-cycle knowledge
• CPA license preferred
• Non-profit account experience preferred
• Advanced experience with QuickBooks Online (certification required) and Spreadsheet Sync
• Strong understanding of U.S. accounting principles, reconciliations, and financial statements
• Proven experience in a client-facing role , resolving issues and assisting clients with bookkeeping questions
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and thrive in a fast-growing environment
• Comfort working remotely with reliable internet and professional workspace
• Strong Microsoft Excel experience
• Understanding of AI systems including Copilot
• Experience with Asana, SharePoint, Fathom or similar task/time management tools
