- A cashier is responsible for handling transactions at the point of sale, processing payments, and providing excellent customer service in a retail, grocery, or service environment. They ensure accurate transactions, manage cash, and assist customers with their needs during checkout.
- Process Transactions: Scan items, calculate totals, accept payments (cash, credit/debit cards, digital payments), and provide correct change.
- Customer Service: Greet customers warmly, answer questions, assist with product location, and handle any inquiries or concerns during the checkout process.
- Maintain Cash Drawer: Keep track of cash in the drawer, ensure it matches sales totals, and make regular deposits if necessary.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require additional qualifications).
- Experience: Previous cashier or customer service experience is typically preferred but not always required for entry-level positions.
- Mathematical Skills: Basic math skills for processing transactions, making change, and managing cash.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to interact with customers and team members.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy in handling cash, scanning items, and processing payments.
