Senior Project Engineer (International Applicants)

1. Client Description

The organization is a leading international infrastructure and industrial contractor executing high-profile energy, resource, and heavy civil construction developments globally. They specialize in managing large-scale project execution frameworks, driving strict on-site productivity, and maintaining high safety, design, and quality standards on complex greenfield industrial sites.

2. Scope

• Project Type : A major greenfield industrial construction project.

• Location : Site-based in Papua New Guinea .

• Hierarchy : Reports directly to the Construction Manager or Project Director, and provides leadership and oversight to Project Engineers.

• Primary Mandate : Act as the senior technical and coordination lead on site, managing high-value, multidisciplinary work packages from engineering release through to mechanical completion and handover.

• Nationality Requirement : This position is open to expatriates.

3. Key Responsibilities

• Senior Package Management : Direct and take full accountability for complex, high-value civil, structural, mechanical, or piping work packages to ensure delivery matches baseline budgets and schedules.

• Cross-Functional Coordination : Lead the integration and manage critical interfaces between engineering, procurement, logistics, project controls, and site construction teams to guarantee material and data readiness.

• Subcontractor & Vendor Governance : Oversee contractor performance, evaluate major progress claims, and ensure execution strictly complies with contractual milestones and technical specifications.

• Technical Leadership & Change Management : Supervise the site RFI (Request for Information) process, resolve complex engineering design queries, and technically substantiate project variations, scope changes, and recovery plans.

• Progress Tracking & Reporting : Monitor master schedule critical paths (Primavera P6 logic), evaluate productivity metrics, and deliver high-level executive progress reports to management.

• Commissioning & Handover : Coordinate multi-party system walk-downs, manage punch list close-outs, and oversee the compilation of final mechanical completion turnover dossiers.

4. Qualifications

• Education : Hold a University Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or equivalent).

• Certifications : Professional Engineer registration or senior Project Management certification (e.g., PMP) is highly desirable.

• Essential Experience :

  • 10 to 15 years of progressive project engineering experience, with at least 3 to 5 years in a Senior Project Engineer or Area Engineer capacity.

  • Proven track record delivering large-scale industrial, mining, LNG, energy, or heavy civil construction projects.

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex contractor packages and multidisciplinary site interfaces in remote, fast-paced greenfield environments.

• Technical Skills : Comprehensive understanding of EPC project management principles, engineering software, earned value progress tracking, and contract administration.

• Personal Attributes : Strong leadership, decision-making, and advanced problem-solving abilities paired with an autonomous approach to navigating high-pressure, multicultural environments.
