- A housekeeper is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, order, and organization within a home, hotel, or other establishments. The role may involve a variety of tasks depending on the employer, ranging from cleaning to light maintenance duties.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Cleaning:
- Dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors.
- Cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, and living spaces, including wiping down surfaces and disinfecting high-touch areas.
- Washing windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces.
- Changing bed linens and making beds.
- Laundry and Ironing:
- Washing, drying, folding, and ironing clothes and linens as needed.
- Organization:
- Organizing living spaces, closets, and cabinets.
- Arranging furniture, supplies, and personal belongings in a neat and orderly manner.
- Trash Disposal:
- Emptying trash bins and disposing of garbage properly.
- Restocking Supplies:
- Ensuring cleaning and household supplies are fully stocked, and informing the employer when restocking is needed.
- Occasional Deep Cleaning:
- Perform periodic deep cleaning tasks like carpet cleaning, refrigerator cleaning, or detailed kitchen cleaning.
- Personal Assistance (optional depending on employer):
- Running errands, such as grocery shopping.
- Preparing simple meals or snacks.

- Experience:
- Previous experience as a housekeeper or cleaner is preferred but not always required.
- Experience in a hotel, resort, or private household setting is beneficial.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques and materials.
- Ability to handle cleaning products and tools safely.
- Time management skills to complete tasks efficiently.
- Good organizational skills.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift heavy objects (up to 25 pounds or more).
- Ability to perform physical labor and cleaning tasks for extended periods.
- Personal Attributes:
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Discretion and respect for privacy.
- Good communication skills.
- Education:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is often preferred but not usually mandatory.
- Additional Requirements (Optional):
- A background check may be required for some positions, especially those working in private homes or with children.
- Some employers may require specific certifications (e.g., in cleaning or hygiene standards).
