- A housekeeper is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in private homes, hotels, hospitals, or other residential or commercial establishments. Their tasks often include routine cleaning, laundry, and ensuring that the environment is hygienic and welcoming.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Cleaning and Maintaining Rooms:
- Sweep, mop, dust, and vacuum floors
- Clean bathrooms (toilets, showers, mirrors, sinks, etc.)
- Change bed linens and make beds
- Empty trash bins and replace liners
- Wipe down and sanitize surfaces such as counters, tables, and appliances
- Laundry and Linen Care:
- Wash, fold, and iron clothes and linens
- Ensure that clean linens are replenished as needed
- Restocking Supplies:
- Replenish toiletries, towels, and other supplies in the rooms or common areas
- Report low stock levels of cleaning supplies to the supervisor
- General Cleaning:
- Clean windows, glass surfaces, and mirrors
- Maintain the cleanliness of common areas such as lounges, hallways, and kitchens
- Clean and disinfect high-touch areas like door handles, light switches, and remote controls
- Organizational Duties:
- Organize and tidy rooms and common areas
- Ensure that personal items are handled with care
- Additional Duties (if applicable):
- Assist with basic maintenance or repairs (e.g., fixing a leaky faucet, replacing light bulbs)
- Prepare breakfast or assist with meal preparation in some settings (e.g., hotels or large homes)

- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require additional certifications or training)
- Experience:
- Previous housekeeping experience is preferred but not always required
- Experience with specific cleaning equipment or cleaning products may be a plus
- Skills:
- Knowledge of cleaning and sanitization techniques
- Ability to handle cleaning chemicals safely and effectively
- Good physical stamina to perform manual labor and stand or bend for long periods
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Good communication skills
- Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and move heavy objects, such as vacuum cleaners, cleaning supplies, and linens
- Ability to bend, kneel, and reach in various positions to clean different areas
- Other Requirements:
- Reliability and punctuality
- Trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work well with others, especially in team-oriented settings like hotels or resorts
- Additional Desirable Qualities:
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Flexibility in work hours, as shifts can vary (especially in hotels or hospitality settings)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and stay organized
