About the role
The Backhoe Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a backhoe to perform excavation, trenching, digging, loading, backfilling, and other earthmoving activities at construction sites. The operator ensures that all equipment is operated according to safety standards, project specifications, and company procedures.
Key responsibilities
Operate backhoe equipment for excavation, trenching, digging, loading, and backfilling activities
Perform earthmoving operations according to project plans, drawings, and instructions from the site supervisor or equipment supervisor
Inspect the backhoe before and after operation to ensure it is in good working condition
Conduct daily equipment checks and report any mechanical defects, leaks, or abnormalities
Perform basic equipment maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and checking fluid levels
Follow all construction site safety rules, procedures, and instructions
Ensure the safety of workers, pedestrians, and nearby structures while operating the equipment
Coordinate with other equipment operators, construction workers, and site personnel to ensure smooth work operations
Maintain accurate equipment operation logs, inspection records, and work reports as required
Report equipment damage, breakdowns, unsafe conditions, and incidents immediately to the supervisor
About you
High school graduate or equivalent
Proven experience operating a backhoe in construction or related projects is an advantage
Knowledge of excavation procedures, earthmoving operations, and construction site safety
Ability to perform basic equipment inspection and preventive maintenance
Physically fit and capable of working in outdoor construction environments
Must possess the required driver's license, operator's license, or certification applicable to the equipment and local regulations
Responsible, safety-conscious, and able to follow instructions
Willing to work overtime or on shifting schedules when required by the project
