Finance and Accounting Manager

Work Arrangement / Work Shift: Remote | 10AM to 7PM EST

Role Overview:
The Finance & Accounting Manager will serve as the internal owner of day-to-day Finance & Accounting operations for the U.S.-based business, sitting at the center of the company's financial infrastructure. This hands-on role involves partnering closely with the Founder & CEO, CFO consultant, outsourced accounting partner, and cross-functional leaders to ensure accurate books, reliable reporting, disciplined cash management, strong financial controls, and clear visibility into business performance. The manager will drive the monthly close process internally, hold external accounting partners accountable, maintain financial reporting and forecasting, support budgeting and FP&A, and ensure the accuracy of inventory, COGS, and financial data.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Monthly Close + Accounting Oversight

• Serve as the primary internal point of accountability for the monthly accounting close

• Manage the close calendar and ensure all internal and external contributors complete required deliverables against agreed timelines

• Coordinate closely with the company's outsourced accounting partner and actively follow up on incomplete, late or inaccurate work

• Review balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, expense classifications and supporting schedules

• Maintain visibility into all open accounting items and drive issues through resolution

• Ensure bank, credit card, AP, AR, revenue, inventory and other material accounts are appropriately reconciled

• Review financial statements for completeness, accuracy and consistency before CFO / CEO review

• Ensure transactions are recorded consistently in accordance with U.S. GAAP and the company's policies

• Maintain appropriate financial documentation and internal controls

Financial Reporting + CEO Visibility

• Prepare monthly management reporting package for CFO and CEO review, including:

  • P&L

  • Balance Sheet

  • Cash Flow Statement

  • Cash balance

  • Budget/forecast vs. actual

  • Revenue and gross margin

  • Departmental spending

  • Inventory value

  • Inventory levels and weeks of supply

  • Working capital

  • Key D2C and financial KPIs

• Prepare clear variance analyses identifying what changed, why it changed and where further investigation or action is required

• Maintain executive financial dashboards and recurring management reporting

• Ensure financial information is delivered against established monthly reporting timelines

• Partner with the CFO consultant to translate financial results into actionable business insights for leadership

Cash Flow + Capital Planning

• Maintain an accurate rolling 13-week cash flow forecast

• Maintain current visibility into cash balances, outstanding AP and committed / upcoming cash requirements

• Update cash forecasts regularly based on actual business performance and changing operating plans

• Monitor inventory purchases, production deposits, freight, marketing spend, payroll, contractors and other material cash commitments

• Identify potential liquidity risks sufficiently ahead of need

• Partner with the CFO consultant to forecast founder / shareholder capital requirements and longer-term cash needs

• Maintain scenario analyses around revenue, spending and working-capital assumptions

Inventory, COGS + Gross Margin

• Partner closely with Supply Chain & Operations to ensure accurate product-level COGS and inventory reporting

• Maintain and analyze fully landed product costs, including manufacturing, packaging/components, freight, duties and other applicable landed-cost components

• Reconcile inventory across NetSuite, warehouse/3PL records and financial statements

• Monitor inventory balances, receipts, movements, samples, promotional usage, write-offs and adjustments

• Monitor inventory value, turns and weeks of supply

• Investigate and resolve discrepancies in product costs, inventory valuation and COGS

• Partner with Product Development and Supply Chain to evaluate cost changes and margin implications

• Maintain accurate gross-margin reporting and identify opportunities to improve product economics

FP&A + Budget Management

• Partner with the CFO consultant to develop and maintain the company's annual operating budget and financial forecasts

• Maintain monthly departmental budgets and spending visibility

• Prepare actual vs. budget / forecast analyses

• Maintain rolling forecasts reflecting changes in sales, inventory, hiring, marketing spend and operating expenses

• Support scenario and sensitivity analyses

• Support financial evaluation of new hires, vendor engagements, product launches, marketing investments and other business initiatives

• Help functional leaders understand budgets, spending and financial tradeoffs

• Support the development and maintenance of the company's divisional / departmental and GL-level financial reporting structure

D2C + Business Performance Analysis

• Partner with Growth and the CFO consultant to maintain the company's D2C P&L and financial model

• Monitor D2C economics including:

  • Net sales

  • AOV

  • Gross margin

  • Contribution margin

  • CAC

  • MER

  • Returns / refunds

  • Shipping and fulfillment costs

  • Payment processing fees

• Support product-, channel- and promotion-level profitability analysis

• Maintain financial guardrails that help inform marketing and Growth investment decisions

AP, Vendor + Expense Management

• Support invoice review, coding, approval and payment workflows

• Maintain visibility into outstanding invoices, deposits, payment schedules and committed spend

• Ensure vendor expenses are recorded accurately against appropriate departments and GL accounts

• Monitor recurring expenses and material vendor commitments

• Support financial review of major vendor agreements and proposals

• Identify unusual, duplicate or inconsistent expenses and escalate appropriately

Systems, Controls + Process Improvement

• Help establish and maintain scalable Finance & Accounting processes appropriate for a growing company

• Maintain financial reporting calendars, templates, trackers and documentation

• Support accurate financial configuration and data integrity within NetSuite and connected systems

• Identify opportunities to automate manual financial processes

• Establish and maintain appropriate approval workflows, segregation of duties and financial controls

• Document recurring Finance & Accounting processes to create continuity and accountability

• Partner with the CFO consultant to implement the company's 2027 Chart of Accounts, divisional structure and management reporting architecture
  

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field.

• At least 5 years of professional experience in FP&A, corporate finance, accounting, or a closely related role.

• Prior FP&A or corporate finance experience supporting U.S.-based companies is required.

• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and the primary financial statements.

• Demonstrated experience managing budgets, forecasts, variance analyses, and financial models.

• Experience reviewing financial statements and supporting the monthly accounting close.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets skills.

• Strong financial modeling and analytical capabilities.

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively with U.S.-based stakeholders and maintain meaningful overlap with U.S. Eastern Time business hours.

How You Work:

The successful candidate must be equally comfortable reviewing a balance sheet reconciliation, investigating an incorrect product cost in NetSuite, updating a 13-week cash forecast, preparing a management reporting package, following up with an outsourced bookkeeper, and analyzing why actual performance differed from plan.
