Research Associate

About the role
This role supports an association by conducting legal research, data analysis, and documentation work. The position involves reviewing court cases, legal issues, and industry data to inform decision-making and support organizational advocacy efforts.
Key responsibilities
Review and document data relevant to legal and industry issues
Prepare for trial by verifying facts and researching laws and previous cases
Research legal issues presented during litigation
Advise on research results and assist in developing appropriate courses of action
Write first drafts of court opinions
Review documents and pleadings filed with the court as assigned
Examine previous court cases and judicial opinions to establish legal precedents
Prepare legal documents under the direction of legal counsel or consultants
Conduct research using legal periodicals, online sources, and law library materials
Verify information gathered on witnesses, plaintiffs, and defendants involved in cases
Coordinate with regulatory agencies, organization members, and industry partners on technical issues
Initiate research on trends, issues, and concerns affecting the energy industry and distribution sector
Organize sector information into end-user and reader-friendly formats
Contribute to preparation of communications and advocacy materials including newsletters, reports, and promotional materials
Examine and validate accuracy of historical data from internal databases and various sources
Use mathematical, statistical, and analytical models to find patterns revealing opportunities, improvement areas, flaws, or threats
Prepare communications such as reports and presentations to provide insights on data findings
Maintain library materials including books and electronic research resources
Recommend library materials for research and reference purposes

Ability to conduct thorough, intensive research covering every aspect of issues
Capability to verify facts and information associated with cases
Ability to compile information from research on particular issues
Proficiency in using various legal research resources and databases
Ability to prepare legal documents
Capability to examine and validate data accuracy
Proficiency with mathematical, statistical, and analytical models
Ability to organize complex information into accessible formats
Capability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and regulatory agencies
