A Barista is responsible for preparing and serving coffee and other beverages to customers, typically in a coffee shop or café setting. They create a positive customer experience by providing high-quality drinks, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and ensuring that customers' needs are met.
Beverage Preparation:
- Prepare and serve a variety of coffee drinks, such as espresso, cappuccinos, lattes, and iced coffees.
- Brew coffee, tea, and other beverages according to company recipes and customer preferences.
- Ensure the quality and consistency of drinks by following standard preparation procedures.
Customer Service:
- Greet customers, take orders, and provide recommendations based on their preferences.
- Answer questions about the menu, ingredients, and drink options.
- Handle customer complaints or issues in a professional and efficient manner to ensure customer satisfaction.
Cash Handling and Point of Sale (POS):
- Operate the cash register, process payments, and give correct change.
- Maintain an accurate register and balance cash at the end of shifts.
- Process credit card and mobile payment transactions.
Education:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
- No formal education beyond high school is usually needed, although barista certification or training can be a plus.
Experience:
- Previous experience as a barista or in a customer service role is preferred, but entry-level positions may be available.
- Experience with espresso machines and other coffee-making equipment is beneficial.
Skills:
- Strong customer service and communication skills to interact with customers professionally.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, especially during busy periods.
- Basic math skills for handling payments and making change.
- Knowledge of different coffee brewing methods and drink recipes.
- Attention to detail for creating quality drinks and ensuring cleanliness.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform tasks such as bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Comfortable working in a busy, noisy environment.
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
