Medical Technologist/Drug Analyst

I. General Functions

1. Laboratory Operations and Quality Assurance

• Perform laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures and company quality standards.
• Ensure accurate analysis, documentation, and release of test results.
• Prepare specimens and requirements for referral or send-out testing.
• Participate in the Department of Health (DOH) External Quality Assessment Program.

2. Laboratory Safety, Housekeeping, and Equipment Maintenance

• Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of the laboratory work area.
• Clean, disinfect, and properly store laboratory equipment, instruments, and materials after use.
• Operate, maintain, and perform minor troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
• Ensure compliance with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules.

3. Inventory and Coordination

• Coordinate with the Laboratory Section Chief to maintain adequate laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables.
• Coordinate with pathologists regarding referrals and laboratory results.
• Perform departmental duties on a rotational basis.

4. Administrative and Support Functions

• Assist in encoding, recording, and transferring laboratory results.
• Perform home service specimen collection when assigned.
• Support other laboratory sections during staff shortages.
• Serve as understudy and potential Officer-in-Charge (OIC) for the Laboratory Section Chief when necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

II. Specific Duties and Responsibilities

A. Extraction / Phlebotomy

• Verify patient identity and test requests before specimen collection.
• Collect and assess specimens using proper techniques.
• Perform blood typing procedures and prepare red cell suspensions.
• Review and sign blood typing results.

B. Hematology

• Perform manual and automated hematology examinations.
• Prepare and process blood smears and referrals for pathologist review.
• Monitor reagents, equipment maintenance, and testing activities.
• Record and release test results.

C. Clinical Chemistry

• Perform blood chemistry testing and manage send-out examinations.
• Prepare and monitor reagents and laboratory supplies.
• Preserve specimens when necessary and ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste.
• Monitor reagent utilization and test volumes.

D. Microscopy and Parasitology

• Perform routine and special urine, stool, and parasitological examinations.
• Maintain specimen processing, cleaning, disposal, and daily test monitoring.
• Follow up on referred laboratory results and monitor reagent usage.

E. Serology

• Perform serological, immunochromatographic, and EIA-based diagnostic tests.
• Conduct HIV testing when certified or qualified.
• Monitor reagents and testing activities.

F. Immunology

• Perform immunoassays including thyroid function tests, fertility profiles, hepatitis panels, and tumor marker testing.
• Prepare and preserve specimens as required.
• Monitor reagent utilization and test performance.

G. Bacteriology and Microbiology

• Perform microbiological procedures including AFB staining, Gram staining, KOH preparation, semen analysis, and Pap smear staining.
• Prepare culture media and conduct Culture and Sensitivity (C&S) testing.
• Assess biopsy specimens for referral and prepare materials for sterilization.
• Manage pathologists’ professional fee schedules.

III. Job Requirements

Qualifications

• Registered Medical Technologist (RMT).
• certified Drug Test Analyst (DTA)
