Our client provides accounting, compliance and advisory services to Australian small business owners. Their services include bookkeeping, quarterly BAS returns, annual tax returns, payroll and financial reporting, with advisory support also provided to selected clients.

In your day-to-day, you will:

• Manage an ongoing portfolio of approximately 50–100 Australian small business clients.

• Provide end-to-end accounting support across your client portfolio.

• Prepare financial reporting and management reporting.

• Prepare and complete Australian BAS and tax-related work.

• Handle bookkeeping and core accounting activities.

• Complete bank reconciliations and manual journals.

• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.

• Support weekly bill runs and payment processes where required.

• Review client financial information and identify significant variances or changes.

• Look beyond the numbers and understand the reasons behind changes in financial performance.

• Identify and raise observations around areas such as gross margins, payroll, staffing costs and inventory.

• Provide practical, high-level financial insights to support Australian business owners.

• Work as part of a pod structure alongside other accounting team members.

• Participate in regular daily team huddles.

• Work closely with the Australian client management team.

• Communicate directly with clients where appropriate and support the local client manager when required.

Skills you have:

• At least 5 years of accounting and finance experience, including hands-on and strong experience supporting Australian practices is required.

• Strong experience in Australian public practice accounting.

• Proficiency with Xero and Excel for day-to-day accounting and client work.

• Experience managing multiple clients and confidently switching between different businesses and priorities.

• Experience preparing Australian financial reports, management reports and tax returns.

• Strong knowledge of core accounting functions, including bank reconciliations, manual journals, accounts payable and BAS.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required for effective collaboration with the Australian team and clients.

• A highly analytical and accurate approach is required when working across a large client portfolio.

• A curious and commercially minded approach is required, with the ability to look beyond the numbers and understand what is driving financial results.

• High level of integrity and professionalism when handling confidential financial information.

• Comfortable working independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Skills that will make you stand out:

• A Chartered Accountant (CA) or CPA qualification will be highly regarded for this role.

• Experience providing management accounting or fractional CFO-style support to small businesses will be highly regarded.

• Australian Payroll experience will be considered an advantage.

• Experience working with clients with multiple structures, such as companies, trusts, SMSFs and individual returns.
