- A barista is responsible for preparing and serving coffee, espresso drinks, and other beverages to customers in a coffee shop or café setting. They create a positive customer experience by providing friendly service, maintaining a clean workspace, and ensuring the quality of drinks. Baristas are also responsible for taking orders, handling payments, and keeping the café environment clean and organized.
- Prepare and Serve Beverages: Make and serve a variety of coffee drinks (espresso, cappuccino, latte, etc.) and other beverages, ensuring high quality and consistency.
- Customer Service: Greet customers, take their orders, and provide recommendations on menu items or special drinks. Answer any questions customers may have about the menu.
- Handle Payments: Process payments through cash, credit/debit cards, or digital payment methods, and provide change or receipts as needed.
- Maintain Cleanliness: Keep the coffee bar, utensils, equipment, and customer areas clean and organized, including wiping down counters, cleaning coffee machines, and restocking supplies.
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required. Some employers may provide on-the-job training or prefer candidates with barista or customer service experience.
- Experience: Previous experience in a café or food service environment is often preferred, especially in handling coffee machines and preparing beverages.
- Skills:
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to operate coffee machines and equipment.
- Knowledge of different coffee drinks and preparation techniques.
- Basic math skills for handling transactions and making change.
- Physical Ability: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift light to moderate weights (e.g., bags of coffee beans), and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to make drinks according to customer preferences and café standards.
