JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Copywriter to write, and edit clear, accurate, and engaging content for a U.S.-based technology and cybersecurity consulting company. The role will translate complex legal, regulatory, compliance, and business information into accessible content for general audiences.

The ideal candidate has general legal-writing experience, excellent English communication skills, and strong comprehension of complex source material. The candidate must be willing and able to learn unfamiliar subjects and work closely with subject-matter experts.

JOB ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties & Responsibilities

• Interview and collaborate with subject-matter experts to gather information and understand technical topics.
• Review client-provided materials, official guidance, regulations, and other source documents before preparing content.
• Distinguish clearly between confirmed requirements, proposed changes, professional recommendations, and general educational information.
• Submit drafts for review and incorporate feedback from staff.
• Identify content that requires additional legal or subject-matter review before publication.
• Manage multiple assignments, revisions, deadlines, and document versions.
• Maintain confidentiality when working with internal, client, or regulated information.
• Create the official publication containing the proceedings, legislation, and legal notices the local government's weekly publication of all the transactions and proceedings of the Council and other information relating to the affairs of the City as determined by ordinance.
• Video tagging the Council's Committee meetings for the purpose of entering them into the Council's legislative management system.
• Work with the Clerk of Council, Deputy Clerk, city attorneys, Legislative Assistants, and various departments, Boards and Commissions of the local government to gather all information for the publication.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Legal Management, Political Science, Communication, Journalism, English, or a related field.
• At least two years of experience in legal content writing, legal research, regulatory writing, paralegal writing, professional copywriting, or a closely related area.
• Excellent written and spoken English, with exceptional grammar, vocabulary, and attention to detail.
• Excellent reading comprehension and the ability to understand lengthy or complex source materials.
• Strong proofreading, and source-evaluation skills.
• Ability to explain legal or regulatory concepts accurately without relying heavily on jargon.
• Experience writing for U.S business audience.
• Ability to adjust tone between educational, professional, conversational, and promotional content.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and content management systems.
• Basic understanding of digital-content practices.
• Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and respond constructively to detailed feedback.
• Willingness to learn cybersecurity, technology, and U.S. compliance topics.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
• Familiarity with the legislative process including how legislation is written; some knowledge of the Codified Ordinances would be beneficial.
• Proficient use of Word, Excel, PDF manipulation and video publishing.
• Excellent copy editing skills including but not limited to grammar, syntax, content, spelling, and proofreading.

Preferred Certifications:

• Paralegal, legal research, or legal-writing certification or formal training.
• Professional copyediting, technical-writing, or content-writing certification.
• Introductory cybersecurity, data privacy, or compliance training is a plus but not required.
