Housekeeping staff are responsible for maintaining cleanliness, orderliness, and hygiene in residential, commercial, or hospitality environments. Their duties can vary depending on the setting but typically include the following:
Cleaning Tasks
- Dusting and polishing furniture, fixtures, and surfaces.
- Sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors.
- Cleaning bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and showers.
- Emptying trash cans and disposing of waste properly.
- Cleaning windows, glass panels, and mirrors.
Laundry Services
- Washing, drying, ironing, and folding linens and clothes.
- Changing and making beds with fresh linens.
Maintaining Supplies
- Replenishing toiletries, towels, and other room supplies.
- Monitoring cleaning supplies and requesting replacements when necessary.
Organizational Tasks
- Keeping rooms, lobbies, and other areas organized and tidy.
- Arranging furniture or decorations as needed.
Sanitation and Safety
- Using cleaning products safely and as directed.
- Following health and safety regulations to prevent hazards.
No formal education is typically required, but a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience in cleaning or a similar role is advantageous but not always necessary, as on-the-job training is often provided.
Skills and Abilities
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift for extended periods.
