Job Summary:
The Safety Officer is responsible for identifying workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and developing programs to prevent accidents and injuries. The role involves conducting inspections, training employees, investigating incidents, and promoting a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and company health and safety regulations.
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports.
- Organize and conduct safety training, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills.
- Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper usage.
- Maintain safety records, reports, permits, and documentation.
- Perform risk assessments and recommend preventive measures.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety and evacuation procedures.
- Work with management and employees to promote continuous safety improvement.
- Ensure contractors and visitors comply with site safety requirements.
- Monitor environmental health and safety practices to minimize workplace risks.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Professional certifications (preferred), such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent.
- 2–5 years of experience in occupational health and safety.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to conduct training sessions and prepare technical reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
