- Collect and prepare samples: Gather samples, prepare them for testing, and ensure they are valid
- Perform tests: Use established protocols to perform tests on samples.
- Analyze results: Record and analyze test results, looking for signs of disease or infection
- Communicate with physicians: Discuss test results and findings with physicians to help them make treatment decisions
- Maintain equipment: Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment
- Maintain records: Keep statistical records of laboratory results and encode data into patient records

- Pass the Philippine Medical Technologist Licensure Examination (PMTLE) administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)
- Obtain a valid ASCP certification
