A cashier is responsible for processing transactions, handling payments, and providing customer service in a retail or service setting. Key duties include:
- Processing Transactions: Scanning items, entering prices, and calculating totals using a cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Handling Payments: Accepting cash, credit/debit cards, or mobile payments and providing accurate change.
- Customer Service: Greeting customers, addressing inquiries, and resolving issues or complaints in a friendly and efficient manner.
- Maintaining a Clean Work Area: Keeping the cashier station organized and ensuring it is stocked with necessary supplies.
- Balancing Cash Drawer: Ensuring the register's cash balance is correct at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Basic Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, and calculate totals quickly and accurately.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
- Customer Service Skills: Friendly and professional demeanor, with the ability to handle customer inquiries or issues.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy in processing transactions and handling money.
