Veterinarian Nurse

The Veterinary Nurse / Technician provides quality nursing care and medical support to animal patients while assisting veterinarians in examinations, treatments, diagnostics, and surgeries. This role ensures patient safety, proper medication administration, post-operative care, accurate medical records, and excellent client support.

Patient Care and Clinical Support

• Assist veterinarians during animal examinations, consultations, treatments, and procedures
• Administer medications, vaccines, and prescribed treatments accurately and safely
• Monitor animal patients before, during, and after procedures or treatments
• Provide post-operative nursing care and continuous patient observation
• Handle animals safely, compassionately, and professionally to minimize stress and ensure welfare

Diagnostic and Surgical Assistance

• Collect laboratory samples including blood, urine, and fecal specimens for testing
• Perform basic diagnostic procedures and assist in advanced diagnostic testing
• Assist veterinarians during surgeries, dental procedures, and anesthesia monitoring
• Operate, clean, and maintain diagnostic equipment such as X-ray and ultrasound machines
• Prepare surgical instruments, treatment areas, and procedure rooms

Medical Records and Inventory Management

• Maintain accurate and updated patient medical records using clinic systems or EMR platforms
• Document treatments, medications, procedures, and patient progress
• Monitor medical inventory levels and coordinate ordering of medicines and supplies
• Ensure proper storage and handling of medications, equipment, and clinical materials

Client Support and Coordination

• Educate pet owners on proper animal care, nutrition, medication instructions, and wellness plans
• Respond to client inquiries regarding patient care and treatment updates
• Assist in scheduling appointments, follow-up visits, and treatment procedures
• Support front-desk coordination related to patient admissions and client communication

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or equivalent certification in Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Nursing, or a related field
• Previous experience in a veterinary clinic, animal hospital, or similar healthcare environment
• Hands-on experience in animal handling, nursing care, and veterinary medical procedures
• Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common veterinary treatments
• Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical assistance
• Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and clinical documentation
• Strong technical skills in diagnostics, laboratory procedures, and medical equipment operation
• Ability to handle animals safely, calmly, and compassionately
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective client and team interaction
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Specializations or certifications in dentistry, radiology, surgery, or related veterinary fields are an advantage
