External Auditor (Au Client)

About the role

We are seeking an External Auditor to support an Australian client. This opportunity is suitable for someone who is genuinely interested in building a long-term career in external audit. Extensive audit experience is not essential, as the client is prepared to provide training and ongoing coaching to help the successful candidate develop their technical audit skills and progressively take on greater responsibility. Strong English communication skills are essential, as you will work closely with Australian-based Audit Managers and Partners through email, reports, Microsoft Teams, and day-to-day discussions.

Key responsibilities

The role will follow a staged approach, with responsibilities expanding as your audit knowledge and capabilities develop.

Initially, you will be responsible for:

• Rolling forward prior-year audit working papers using Excel and Word

• Completing audit planning documents with guidance and coaching

• Preparing draft financial statements and lead schedules using clients' trial balances

• Assisting the administration team in preparing audit information requests for clients

• Collating, organizing, and referencing client documentation

As your experience and capabilities develop, your responsibilities will expand to include:

• Completing audit working papers for in-house audits

• Performing audit fieldwork and preparing referenced supporting documentation for review by Australian-based Audit Managers and Partners

• Collaborating with the local audit team on larger audit engagements when required

• Providing basic insights for audit management letters, including audit observations and recommendations regarding internal controls

About you

• At least 3 years of experience working as a Business Accountant supporting Australian businesses or clients

• A genuine interest in external audit and a strong desire to develop a long-term career in auditing

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with confidence communicating with Australian-based stakeholders

• A relevant degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or a related field

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work

• Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and develop through structured training and coaching

• Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet reporting deadlines

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Previous exposure to external audit, accounting, financial reporting, or assurance work (desirable)

• Familiarity with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and/or Australian Auditing Standards (ASA) (desirable)
