Estimating & Design Coordinator - Awning Company

WE’RE HIRING: ESTIMATING & DESIGN COORDINATOR

Are you skilled at reading architectural blueprints, creating design renderings, and coordinating construction estimates? We’re looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Estimating & Design Coordinator to support projects involving awnings, architectural canopies, and custom fabric and metal structures.

This role combines architectural plan review, visual design, estimating support, proposal preparation, and project coordination . The ideal candidate can manage multiple bids and deadlines while ensuring technical accuracy and high-quality visual presentations.

Key Responsibilities

Blueprint Review & Scope Coordination

• Review architectural plans and specifications received from general contractors, bid platforms, and public bid postings
• Identify project scope, exclusions, alternates, and unclear or conflicting details
• Complete project scope forms documenting dimensions, materials, finishes, mounting conditions, and special requirements
• Identify potential risks and outstanding questions involving structural requirements, electrical work, permits, site access, and bid deadlines
• Review approximately 15–30 projects per week , maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines

Design & Rendering

• Create renderings for simple and complex projects using SketchUp and Adobe software
• Develop visual concepts for awnings, architectural canopies, and other outdoor structures
• Edit and enhance project and site photos for renderings, proposals, and marketing materials
• Maintain visual quality and accuracy when translating project requirements into design presentations

Estimating & Proposal Preparation

• Gather project information from customers, sales consultants, and vendors to support estimates and proposals
• Draft professional estimates and proposals for clients
• Prepare proposal documents using Microsoft Word and, as implemented, CRM software
• Track bid deadlines, addenda, and submission requirements for public and private projects
• Learn the company's pricing approach, with the opportunity to take on direct project pricing as the role develops

Administrative & Project Coordination

• Assist with permit paperwork, engineering requests, vendor quotes, submittals, and drawings
• Maintain organized project files, drawing versions, and bid records
• Coordinate with sales, estimating, production, and installation teams
• Attend company meetings and help keep projects moving forward
  

Required Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience reading and interpreting architectural blueprints and specifications , preferably for commercial projects
• Proficiency in SketchUp and Adobe software , such as Photoshop and Illustrator
• A portfolio of renderings, drawings, or mockups demonstrating visual design quality
• Strong attention to detail when reviewing plans and documenting project scope
• Excellent written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional proposals
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PDF tools
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Basic knowledge of construction and building systems
• Ability to work independently and communicate proactively
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in awnings, signage, storefronts, architectural metals, millwork, fabrication, or exterior structures
• Experience with construction takeoffs and estimating
• Familiarity with bid platforms such as Procore, BuildingConnected, or PlanHub
• Experience with public and private construction bids
• Familiarity with shop drawings or engineering drawings using AutoCAD or Revit
• Experience with CRM and proposal software
• Understanding of fabric and metal fabrication processes and lead times
• Interest in developing estimating and project-pricing expertise
