A sales representative sells a company's products or services to customers. They may work in retail, finance, healthcare, technology, or other industries.
Responsibilities
- Identify customer needs: Understand what customers want and need, and analyze their cost-benefit and needs
- Make sales: Present products to customers, negotiate terms, and close sales
- Build relationships: Maintain and develop relationships with customers and other businesses
- Provide customer service: Resolve customer complaints, handle returns, and provide information about products
- Meet sales goals: Generate leads, meet sales quotas, and report to a sales director
- Stay informed: Attend conferences and keep up with industry trends
Sales representatives need a variety of skills and experience to sell products and services, including:
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills, including listening and the ability to convey value propositions
- Customer service: The ability to provide excellent customer service and build long-term relationships
- Negotiation: The ability to negotiate contracts and close sales deals
- Sales experience: A proven track record of selling products and services
- Interpersonal skills: The ability to approach and engage potential customers
- Product knowledge: A strong understanding of the products being sold
- Flexibility: The ability to be flexible and open to change
- Computer skills: The ability to use a computer and relevant software packages
- Self-motivation: The ability to be self-motivated and friendly
