Eye Care Assistant

FAMILY EYE CARE
- Escort patients to exam rooms, prepare them for examinations, and assist the ophthalmologist or optometrist with various procedures, such as visual acuity testing, lensometry, and administering eye drops. Take patient histories and document relevant information in electronic health records.
- Optical Dispensing and Sales: Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear, including frames and lenses, based on their prescriptions and lifestyle needs. Measure pupillary distance and other necessary measurements for accurate lens fitting. Explain lens options, coatings, and pricing to patients. Process sales transactions and handle insurance paperwork.
- Administrative and Clerical Tasks: Manage patient appointments, answer phone calls, and handle other administrative duties, such as filing patient records and processing insurance claims. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that exam rooms and equipment are properly sanitized and stocked.
- Must be able to interact effectively with patients of all ages, demonstrating empathy, patience, and a professional demeanor. Clear and concise communication is crucial for explaining procedures, answering questions, and providing excellent customer service.
- Attention to Detail and Accuracy: Accuracy is paramount in this role, as even small errors can impact patient care. Must be meticulous in taking patient histories, performing measurements, and documenting information. Precision is also essential when assisting with procedures and dispensing eyewear.
- Technical Aptitude and Computer Skills: Familiarity with basic eye care equipment and procedures is beneficial. Comfort and proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and other computer software are typically required. A willingness to learn new technologies and techniques is also important.
