Job Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Tax Accountant to support financial operations, compliance, and reporting across multiple entities. This role involves hands-on accounting, tax preparation, reconciliations, and reporting, with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery. You will work closely with finance leadership, support audits, and manage financial data across AUD and USD environments, making this role ideal for someone with strong technical skills and solid experience in business services and tax.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare financial budget forecasts , including costing analysis, landed costs, and labor costs.
- Complete standard compliance tasks such as routine BAS preparation and reporting .
- Assist with and prepare tax returns for companies, partnerships, trusts (including SMSFs ), and individuals.
- Draft tax reconciliations and detailed workpapers to support accurate reporting and compliance.
- Perform accounts reconciliation and review , including balance sheet and profit & loss accounts.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable , ensuring payments are made and received on time.
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries and support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Generate monthly, sales, and custom financial reports , working closely with the Head of Finance.
- Maintain accurate accounting records using Excel, Xero, XPM , and other related accounting software.
- Manage financial transactions across AUD and USD currencies , ensuring correct recording and classification.
- Support internal and external audits , ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Substantiate financial transactions by auditing and reviewing source documents .
- Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by gathering and examining account information.
- Maintain financial security through adherence to internal controls, policies, and data backup procedures .
- Summarize financial performance by preparing balance sheets and profit and loss statements .
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Demonstrated experience in SMSF accounting (essential).
- Strong background in business services (SME accounting)and individual tax returns (highly regarded).
- Solid understanding of BAS, tax compliance, and financial reporting standards .
- Proficient in Excel, Xero, XPM , and related accounting software.
- Experience working with multi-currency environments (AUD and USD).
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, audit support, and compliance requirements .
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills .
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
