Florist – Duties and Responsibilities
A Florist is responsible for creating, arranging, and selling floral designs while ensuring freshness, quality, and excellent customer service.
Floral Design & Arrangement
- Design and create flower arrangements for events such as weddings, funerals, birthdays, anniversaries, and corporate functions
- Prepare bouquets, wreaths, centerpieces, corsages, and floral displays
- Follow client specifications, themes, and color schemes
- Ensure creativity and proper balance in all floral designs
Flower Care & Handling
- Receive, inspect, and condition fresh flowers and plants upon delivery
- Trim, water, store, and preserve flowers to maintain freshness and quality
- Dispose of damaged or expired flowers properly
- Maintain proper storage conditions for flowers and plants
Customer Service & Sales
- Assist customers in selecting flowers and arrangements suitable for their needs and budget
- Provide advice on flower types, meanings, and care instructions
- Handle orders, payments, and customer inquiries professionally
- Upsell floral products, gift items, and add-on services
Shop Operations & Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the flower shop or work area
- Manage inventory of flowers, vases, ribbons, and floral supplies
- Coordinate with suppliers and report stock shortages
- Prepare floral orders for delivery or pickup
Event & Delivery Support
- Set up floral decorations at event venues when required
- Ensure timely preparation and delivery of floral orders
- Assist with packing and loading flowers to prevent damage during transport
Health, Safety & Professional Standards
- Follow workplace safety and hygiene standards
- Handle sharp tools and equipment safely
- Maintain a professional appearance and work attitude
Professional Development
- Stay updated with current floral trends and design techniques
- Learn new styles and arrangements as required by the employer
