Staff Nurse

Demonstrate appropriate application of knowledge in nursing practice:

• Performs intravenous line insertions, facilitates blood transfusions and chemotherapy.
• Renders comfort measures and symptomatic relief to patients such as giving tepid sponge baths, turning positions, backrubs, application of warm and cold compresses and oral care.
• Administers medications using the 10 Rights (right drugs, right patient, right dose to the right route, right time, right documentation, patient’s drug history, patients allergies, teach patients about the drug that he received, Drug to food interaction.)
• Operates or monitors medical equipments such as sphygmomanometer, cardiac monitors, mechanical ventilators, glucometers, pulse oximeters, suction machines, nebulizers and Infusion pumps.
• Provides care for patients with tracheostomy tube and colostomy bags.
• Administers enteral feeding for patients with nasogastric tubes and gastrostomy tubes.
• Provides care for the patients on mechanical ventilator which includes suctioning of ET tube. Strict monitoring to ensure early detection of complications associated with mechanical ventilator.
• Renders emergency measures to critically ill patients, such as assisting the doctors during CPR by providing cardiac massage, oxygen inhalation/ambubagging, assists the doctors during intubation, suctioning of air passages or ET if intubated, and assist in administration of emergency medications such as epinephrine, lidocaine, inotropics, as allowed by the hospital policy in drug administration etc.
• Measures the patient’s intake and output especially in cases of massive bleeding, sudden loss of consciousness, renal cardiac shock and post-operative patient etc.
• Provides post-operative care to assist the patient with their recovery which includes administering medications to alleviate or reduce pain and discomfort while also providing adequate health teaching to prevent post op complications.
• Responsible for preparing the patient for surgery such as providing assistance during personal hygiene activities if needed, administration of pre-operative medications, reminding NPO orders, performing enemas, going over the Pre-operative Check list, etc.
• Facilitates discharge of patients and providing health teaching to patient and family members such as: Rehabilitative activities of daily living, Proper diet, Prescribed home medications, Scheduled check-ups for faster recovery, Personal and environmental sanitation.
• Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient and family diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.
• Acts as a patient advocate by supporting the basic rights, values and beliefs of the patient

Qualifications:

• Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Must be Registered Nurse (RN)
• With or without work experience
• Fresh board passer are welcome to apply
• Can start immediately
