System Engineer - Data Platform (APAC Region)

Job Description

You will be part of the APAC Data Platform organization , working closely with global Database Operations, Infrastructure, Security, Cloud Engineering, and Application teams to ensure the stability, performance, security, and scalability of enterprise database platforms across the APAC region. 

The role focuses on Oracle database administration, cloud database engineering, automation, operational excellence, and cloud transformation initiatives. Most production database platforms are hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), with additional workloads running on AWS and hybrid environments. 

This is a hands-on technical role focused on database operations, cloud platform administration, automation, and service reliability. 

Key tasks: 

Database Platform Operations 

• Install, configure, administer, maintain, and upgrade enterprise database platforms. 
• Manage Oracle, PostgreSQL, and other supported database technologies across production and non-production environments. 
• Execute database migrations, upgrades, patching, cloning, refreshes, and platform lifecycle activities. 
• Ensure database security, availability, performance, and operational resilience. 
• Perform backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity activities. 
• Conduct capacity planning and performance optimization. 
• Troubleshoot complex database, infrastructure, and cloud-related issues. 

Oracle Database Administration 

• Support and administer: Oracle Database 19c / 23ai , Oracle RAC, Oracle Data Guard, Oracle ASM ,Oracle RMAN, Oracle GoldenGate, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Oracle Exadata, Oracle Linux 

Multi-Database Administration 

• Experience with one or more of: Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL / MariaDB 
• PostgreSQL administration experience is highly desirable, including replication, backup/recovery, monitoring, and performance tuning. 

Cloud Database Engineering 

• Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

• Automate database administration and operational processes.
• Develop Infrastructure-as-Code solutions. 
• Build and maintain automation frameworks for provisioning, patching, monitoring, and deployments. 
• Support CI/CD pipelines for database platform delivery. 
• Improve operational efficiency through automation and standardization. 
• Contribute to operational maturity and service reliability initiatives. 

Technologies:  Terraform, Ansible , Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Git, Python, Shell Scripting, PowerShell 

Monitoring & Reliability Engineering 

• Support enterprise monitoring and observability platforms. 
• Proactively monitor platform health, capacity, and performance. 
• Support operational readiness and service transition activities. 
• Implement reliability improvements and preventive maintenance activities. 
• Technologies:  Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, ELK Stack, OCI Monitoring, AWS CloudWatch 

Incident, Problem & Change Management 

• Participate in on-call rotations and production support. 
• Resolve critical database incidents and service disruptions. 
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. 
• Support change management, release management, and problem management processes.
• Collaborate with global teams in a follow-the-sun operational support model. 

Qualifications

Required Experience 

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline. 
• 7+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA, Cloud DBA, Database Administrator, or Database Systems Engineer. 
• Strong hands-on Oracle administration experience in enterprise environments. 
• Deep knowledge of Oracle RAC, Oracle Data Guard, Oracle ASM, Oracle RMAN, Oracle GoldenGate, Oracle Exadata, Oracle Performance Tuning 
• High Availability and Disaster Recovery Solutions 
• Experience supporting Oracle workloads in OCI. 
• Experience supporting databases hosted in AWS environments. 
• Strong Linux/Unix administration skills. 
• Experience supporting mission-critical production systems with strict SLA requirements. 
• Knowledge of database security, compliance, and operational governance best practices.

• Experience supporting Core Banking platforms. 
• Experience within Banking or Financial Services environments. 
• Experience working within ITIL-based operational organizations. 
• Experience supporting OCI cloud migrations and technology modernization initiatives. 
• Experience working within global DBA Operations and follow-the-sun support models. 

Preferred Certifications 

• Oracle: Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Oracle Certified Master (OCM), OCI Foundations Associate, OCI Architect Associate / Professional, OCI Database Professional Certification 
• AWS: AWS Certified Database Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or Professional, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator 
• Automation & Operations: HashiCorp Terraform Associate, ITIL Foundation
