Assistant Finance Manager (Maritime / Ship Management)

As an Assistant Accounts Manager, you will be responsible for controlling the efficient accounting operations and ensuring that all accounting activities are completed accurately and in compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and established procedures. You will oversee the completion of ledger accounts, review financial reports, monitor cash flow and payments, support audit and tax requirements, and provide guidance to the accounting team. Key Responsibilities Review ship-owner financial statements and other accounting reports, ensuring they are accurate, complete, and prepared in accordance with applicable accounting principles and requirements. Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, management reports, cash flow reports, and other accounting reports. Ensure that subsidiary ledgers are properly reconciled with the general ledger and that discrepancies are identified and resolved. Review monthly financial reports and technical variance reports. Monitor cash positions and ensure sufficient funds are available for operational requirements. Prepare and monitor weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual cash flow forecasts. Monitor payments and ensure that invoices, crew payroll, and other financial obligations are processed accurately and on time. Review and ensure the accurate issuance of invoices, cheques, and other payment documentation. Coordinate the preparation and submission of tax returns and other statutory reports within the required deadlines. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting, tax, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements. Assist with internal and external audits and ensure that required documentation and supporting schedules are prepared and submitted on time. Follow up on audit findings and coordinate the implementation of agreed corrective actions. Review accounting processes and procedures and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls. Ensure accounting systems and processes provide accurate and timely financial information for management reporting and decision-making. Monitor changes in accounting and tax regulations and assess their impact on accounting operations. Supervise, coach, and develop accounting team members to ensure effective performance and continuous professional development. Provide guidance to team members in resolving accounting and operational issues. Monitor individual and team performance and provide appropriate feedback and coaching. Support the training and development of accounting staff. Ensure that accounting activities are performed in accordance with established procedures and internal controls. Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA qualification is highly preferred. Minimum 8–10 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within the maritime, ship management, shipping, or related industries. Strong experience in financial accounting, reporting, general ledger, and cash flow management. Experience in tax compliance and internal or external audit. Experience in supervising or managing an accounting team. Good understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and reporting requirements. Experience working with accounting and financial reporting systems. Knowledge of maritime or ship-management accounting is an advantage. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Good command of the English language.
