The MEPEO Manager oversees the overall implementation of the Annual EPEP approved by MRFC in compliance with DAO 2010-21 and the ECC Conditions and other relevant environmental related activities of the Company. Also, he/she manages the development and implementation of environmental management systems within the organization by identifying, solving and alleviating environmental issues, such as pollution and waste treatment, in compliance with environmental legislation and to ensure corporate sustainable development.
Job Responsibilities:
- Spearheads the implementation of the mitigating measures and monitoring program prescribed in the Environmental Impact Statement, EPEP/Annual EPEP (AEPEP), and FMR/DP;
- Ensures the updating of the EPEP/AEPEP and/or FMR/DP, if the declared measures and monitoring protocols are observed to be ineffective/inefficient and or/if major changes in the process/operation occurred that leads to the possible changes of perceived impacts; and
- Ensures the timely preparation and submission of the following environmental reports: Compliance Monitoring Reports and Self-Monitoring Reports pursuant to item b, Section 5, “Requirements for Mining Companies”, of DAO No. 2015-02, HARMONIZATION OF THE IMPLENTATION OF THE PHILIPPINE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT SYSTEM AND THE PHILIPPINE MINING ACT OF 1995 IN RELATION TO MINING PROJECTS; Sworn Semi-Annual Report on Mine Waste and Mill Tailings Produced, Contained, and/or utilized; Semi-Annual Report on Mining Forest Program; Quarterly Report on National Greening Program Accomplishment; AEPEP accomplishment report; and Reportorial requirements during FMR/DP implementation.
- Ensures compliance with DAO No. 2015-07, Mandating Mining Contractors to Secure ISO 14001 Certification
- Overseeing planning and preparation of EPEP/AEPEP, forestry programs, other related activities, and their implementation.
- Oversees strict compliance to all environment and forestry related legal/regulatory requirements, permitting, registrations, certifications, etc.
- Develops and implement environmental strategies, policies, practices, and action plans to ensure corporate sustainable development.
- Coordinates all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation, and renewable energy to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and other government requirements.
- Audits, analyzes, and reports environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulatory bodies.
- Carries out impact assessments to identify, assess, and reduce an organization’s environmental risks and financial costs.
- Promotes, raises awareness, and trains staff at all levels on environmental issues and responsibilities.
Other Functions
- Ensures that the processes are in conformity with environmental plans and programs.
- Recommends career development of personnel.
- Supervises the performance of subordinates and ensures the timely submission of the Performance Evaluation Report for each staff.
- Ensures that EMS has been practiced in all aspects of grade control operations.
- Performs other functions that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering; Geology; Metallurgical Engineering; Environmental Engineering
- With at least 5-10 years of experience in actual mining environmental work
- Experience with ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System)
- Licensed Mining Engineer; Geologist; Metallurgical Engineer; Environmental Engineer
- In-depth knowledge on DENR and government compliances
- Knowledgeable in basic Microsoft Office Tools
- Competent in using mapping software programs
- Hardworking
- Flexible
- Physically fit
- With good interpersonal, communication, leadership and people management skills
