A helper mechanic, also known as a mechanic helper or mechanical helper, helps mechanics maintain and repair vehicles and equipment. They perform routine maintenance, assist with repairs, and keep the work area clean.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks like oil changes, filter replacements, and lubricating components
- Repairs: Assist with repairs like replacing spark plugs, brake pads, and other parts
- Inspections: Help inspect vehicles and equipment for issues
- Disassembly and reassembly: Help take apart and put back together parts
- Cleaning: Clean and organize work areas, tools, and equipment
- Inventory: Maintain inventory of replacement parts and equipment
- Test driving: Test drive vehicles to ensure repairs are done correctly
- Safety: Follow safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries
- Communication: Communicate with supervisors and other mechanics
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Automotive knowledge and experience
- Ability to operate hand and power tools
- Physical strength and dexterity
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to learn from experienced mechanics
