Shift Head, Quality Assurance Analyst

The QA Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring quality control across the production process, and managing laboratory personnel and equipment. This role is critical in ensuring product compliance, maintaining high laboratory standards, and generating timely and accurate reports to support plant operations and top management.

Personnel Management & Supervision

• Monitors and adjusts personnel work schedules as needed.
• Supervises QA Analysts and Technicians in their daily assignments and activities.
• Checks and signs time reports and assignments; provides relievers for absent staff.
• Recommends appropriate disciplinary actions for violations of company policies.

Laboratory Operations & Equipment

• Calibrates and performs routine/corrective maintenance on lab instruments (pH meter, saccharometer, polarimeter, densitometer, etc.).
• Ensures good laboratory practices, health, safety, and sanitation are maintained at all times.
• Manages hazardous waste and ensures adequate supply of lab consumables.
• Prepares justifications and follow-ups for purchase requests.

Quality Control & Process Monitoring

• Oversees quality monitoring of canes delivered; decides on acceptance or rejection based on reports.
• Supervises conformance checks for cane milling, syrup preparation, fermentation, and distillation processes.
• Ensures analytical results meet specifications and issues corrections when necessary.
• Prepares and signs Certificates of Analysis for incoming materials and finished products (e.g., bioethanol, CO₂).
• Maintains sample accountability and data archival practices.

Reporting & Documentation

• Prepares daily operations reports encompassing all engineering and process measurements.
• Submits efficiency and balance data, fermentation/distillation log sheets, and analytical summaries.
• Prepares reports on raw materials, final product quality, physical inventory, and boiler fuel usage.
• Turns over unfinished tasks to next shift for follow-up and monitoring.

Inventory & Calibration

• Conducts daily stocktaking of process materials (midnight cut-off).
• Coordinates with other departments on raw material quality and inventory.
• Maintains the Yeast Bank; handles pure yeast culture preparation and maintenance.
• Witnesses in-house calibration prior to third-party calibration and tracks molasses/alcohol stock levels.

Qualifications:

• Education: Licensed  Chemist and  Chemical Technician
• Experience: 2–4 years in a  supervisory QA role or related laboratory/plant environment
• Technical Competencies:
• Strong analytical and investigative skills
• Technical competence in chemical analysis and lab instrumentation
• Computer proficiency (e.g., MS Excel, reporting tools)
• Familiarity with budget and auditing techniques
• Soft Skills:
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Excellent oral and written communication
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated production environment
