The role
The Credit Management function is responsible for safeguarding the company’s financial health by ensuring effective cash collection, disciplined credit risk management, and timely resolution of customer-related issues. This role plays a critical part in maintaining stable cash flow, minimizing financial exposure, and enabling strong, trust-based relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
The position oversees end-to-end credit management activities, including cash collection, credit investigation and limit management, dispute resolution, and customer query handling. It ensures that receivables are collected predictably, overdue balances are minimized, and credit exposure remains within approved limits. The role also drives adherence to financial controls and compliance standards, supports audit requirements, and collaborates closely with Finance, Sales, and Commercial teams to provide clear visibility of risk and performance.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct credit investigations for new and existing customers, recommending and maintaining appropriate credit limits aligned with risk assessments and company policies.
- Monitor customer accounts to manage credit exposure, identify early risk indicators, and take proactive actions to mitigate potential delinquency.
- Drive timely and consistent cash collection by executing defined strategies and ensuring customer invoices are accurately submitted and communicated on time.
- Manage credit holds and review/approve orders or bookings based on credit policies and risk evaluation.
- Initiate and manage escalations for high-risk or non-performing accounts, including recommending credit suspension where necessary.
- Resolve customer disputes and queries efficiently to support timely payment and minimize rework.
- Ensure all disputes, adjustments, and write-offs are properly reviewed, documented, and approved in compliance with controls and policies.
- Perform daily cash receipt reviews to ensure accurate and timely application of payments, supported by valid documentation and reason codes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer master data, including credit limits, payment terms, and account status.
- Prepare and participate in regular debt reviews, providing insights on risks, trends, and actionable plans to improve portfolio quality.
- Support month-end close by ensuring timely resolution of disputes, accurate cash application, and clear identification of risks and adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with financial controls, company policies, and audit requirements, maintaining complete and accurate documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of collection activities, customer communications, and payment commitments to ensure accountability and follow-through.
- Collaborate with Sales, Finance, and Commercial teams to resolve issues, align on credit risk, and support business decisions.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying root causes, recommending process enhancements, and supporting efficiency, automation, and workload prioritization.
Required skills and experience
- Formal Education and/or Certification Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or any related business discipline is required. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional certification is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Relevant Experience Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in Credit Management, Credit Controllership, Accounts Receivable, Order-to-Cash (OTC), or Business-to-Business (B2B) Collections. Experience in a global shared services environment or multinational organization is highly preferred.
- Technical and Systems Knowledge Familiarity with ERP systems such as Oracle, and tools/platforms such as Salesforce, Adbook, Archimedes, or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems is an advantage. Strong working knowledge of financial systems, reporting tools, and data analysis is preferred.
Core Competencies
- Drive for Results & Accountability Takes ownership of portfolio performance, consistently delivering against cash collection, overdue reduction, and credit risk targets. Focuses on outcomes over activity, ensuring sustainable results without over-reliance on escalations.
- Attention to Detail & Control Discipline Consistently ensures accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial data, customer records, and transactions. Applies strong control awareness to prevent errors, ensure compliance, and maintain audit-ready documentation at all times.
- Effective Communication & Stakeholder Influence Communicates clearly, confidently, and professionally with customers and internal stakeholders. Adapts messaging based on audience, balancing firmness and collaboration to drive timely payments, resolve issues, and align on credit risk decisions.
- Customer & Stakeholder Focus Delivers consistent, professional credit management support that builds trust with customers, Sales, and Finance teams. Ensures queries, disputes, and concerns are resolved efficiently, creating a reliable and positive stakeholder experience.
- Analytical Thinking & Risk Management Applies strong analytical skills to assess credit risk, interpret aging trends, and identify early warning signs of delinquency or exposure. Uses data-driven insights to support proactive decision-making and minimize financial risk.
- Problem Solving & Resolution Management Identifies root causes of disputes, delays, and process gaps, and drives timely, sustainable resolutions. Balances speed and accuracy to reduce rework, prevent recurring issues, and improve overall portfolio quality.
- Collaboration & Cross-Functional Alignment Works effectively across Finance, Sales, Billing, and Commercial teams to align on priorities, resolve issues, and manage customer risk. Builds strong partnerships that enable faster resolution and better decision-making.
- Relationship Management & Negotiation Builds and maintains strong, trust-based relationships with customers and stakeholders. Demonstrates confidence and professionalism in managing difficult conversations, negotiating payment commitments, and handling escalations when necessary.
- Continuous Improvement Mindset Actively identifies opportunities to enhance processes, strengthen controls, and improve efficiency. Uses insights and feedback to drive standardization, reduce manual effort, and support operational excellence.
