Medical Referral Specialist / Referral Coordinator

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Referral Specialist / Referral Coordinator with strong medical administrative skills to support our medical Referral Department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the end-to-end referral process, ensuring accurate coordination between providers, insurance companies, and patients to facilitate timely access to care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process and manage incoming and outgoing medical referrals from initiation to completion
• Coordinate referrals between primary care providers, specialists, and facilities
• Verify insurance eligibility and referral requirements
• Obtain authorizations when required for referred services
• Follow up on pending referrals and approvals to prevent delays in patient care
• 6Communicate with insurance companies, provider offices, and patients regarding referral status
• Accurately document referral information and outcomes in the EMR/EHR system
• Handle inbound and outbound calls professionally
• Respond to patient and provider inquiries related to referrals

Requirements:

• Must be a Nurse Graduate
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a Referral Department, Referral Coordination, or similar medical administrative role
• Strong understanding of medical terminology
• Experience working with EMR/EHR systems (e.g., ECW or similar platforms)
• Experience with insurance verification, referral eligibility, and payer communication
• Experience handling patient and provider calls professionally
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written
• Available to start immediately
• Must have own computer/laptop, stable internet connection, noise-canceling headset, and backup equipment
• Confident in handling inbound and outbound calls
