Your role and work environment 

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) domain builds bridges within ING linking to almost every part of the bank. Its purpose is to drive secure, efficient processes for our customers and colleagues.

ING wants to set up a bank-wide COO organisation that's ready for the future, with scalable, seamless, digital, and resilient operations. To help us achieve this, COO identified three main ways to make the most impact:

• Building a network organisation: more networking and cross-border collaboration.
• Consolidating the organisation: share capabilities and services in locations where we can best embed these.
• Digitalisation/straight-through processing: making our processes end-to-end to provide a seamlessly digital experience for our customers.

Global COO Finance is an independent unit within ING’s COO domain, reporting hierarchically into ING’s Chief Financial Officer and functionally into ING’s Chief Operations Officer. 

Global COO Finance (COOF) is accountable for designing the global finance operations and technology strategy (together with ING’s TECH organisation) and optimising productivity and customer satisfaction in Operations to improve operational efficiency. It is accountable for executing ING Finance and COO strategy to evolve towards one global digital bank, is responsible for performance of Operations, the operating model, decisions on sourcing and all relevant regulatory and Risk topics. 

Job overview

As Product Lead for Lending & Trade Finance Services (TFS) Accounting, you drive complex, cross‑domain change to enable the process to do new onboardings, new product introduction and to simplify the current IT and process landscape. You lead a multidisciplinary team of business analysts and engineers who convert front‑office product innovation into robust, compliant, and scalable accounting, valuation, and reporting capabilities.

You take full end‑to‑end ownership of the Lending & TFS change agenda: defining the functional and technical roadmap, ensuring front‑to‑back process integration, and coordinating delivery across Finance, Tech, Risk, Operations, and the Lending & TFS organization. You oversee the integration of new product features into the systems landscape, covering data sourcing, booking logic, valuation models, P&L attribution, risk and hedge impacts, and downstream reporting flows.

You coordinate delivery across squads in the Netherlands, ING Hubs, and India—managing cross‑country dependencies, technical design alignment, and execution discipline in a highly complex environment. You safeguard the risk & control framework and ensure all design choices meet regulatory, audit, and model‑governance requirements.

You empower your people to excel in a technically demanding domain—deepening Lending & TFS product expertise, analytical rigour, and engineering craftsmanship. You foster a culture of transparency, structured problem‑solving, and continuous improvement.

You work closely with senior stakeholders across the front‑to‑back chain to align on architecture decisions, resolve structural impediments, and secure timely delivery of new product capabilities. You report to the Tribe Lead Financial Accounting and play a key role in evolving ING’s future‑proof Lending & TFS accounting platform.

The Financial Accounting Tribe focuses on delivery of all change initiatives impacting systems (eg PAR, BEST, AAH, FPL) services. Besides, the tribe is responsible for operating and maintaining these applications. The squads within the tribe are grouped into six (6) introduced products:  

• LS & TFS Accounting : Onboarding & improving the lending & trade products for Product Accounting.
• FM, GT & TS Accounting : Onboarding & improving the Financial Markets and Global Treasury products as well as Transaction Services for Product Accounting.
• FM New Products: Onboarding New Products for Financial Markets for Product Accounting.
• Accounting Onboarding: Onboarding of Retail products on target platform AAH.
• Accounting Core Capabilities: Maintaining, building and changing the central current and target product & general accounting solutions.
• GPC Accounting Data Delivery: Maintaining, building and changing financial accounting data in support of the other product areas in Financial Accounting.

Risk Management - Take ownership on risk management and follow the appropriate procedures to assess and mitigate financial risk and non-financial risk while operating business processes, in order to protect the organization from undue risks.

Business planning – Contribute to the development of annual business plans for your department, ensuring alignment with strategy. Propose business targets and schedule key activities/projects to deliver performance targets. 

Data driven products and Service improvements - Develop data-driven analyses to surface new opportunities to differentiate and improve products and user experiences, ensuring consistency across products and services.

Horizon scanning - Explore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging issues and contribute to the evaluation of their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the organization.  Organisational capability building - Identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions, including continuing professional development to build their professional capabilities. Coach and mentor the people in your line of responsibility to support the development of the COOF talent pool.

Policies and procedures development - Help develop procedures for an area of the organization, and monitor their implementation.

Regulatory and Compliance Management - Help design and implement regulatory and compliance standards in your scope of responsibility.

Solutions Analysis - Identify and evaluate complex, expertise-led solutions against a range of criteria to find the ones that best meet business needs.

Strategy Implementation - Develop tactical plans for optimizing resources and assets being managed within your department

You have a proven track record and the following technical and behavioral skills : 

You hold a Masters Degree (University / Postgraduate) and have ~10 years of experience in area of expertise and relevant experience of planning and managing resources to deliver predetermined objectives (~7-8 years). 

For a Product Lead function on GJA19 you also bring previous experience of working in complex environment, dealing with multiple internal and external stakeholders and solid knowledge of managing large transformation/change projects (~7-8 years).
