What the Database Administrator Looks Forward to Doing Well
As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for maintaining the availability, security, and performance of our MySQL and PostgreSQL database environments while supporting our expanding Data Lake and ETL/ELT infrastructure.
You will ensure the reliability of our data platforms through proactive monitoring, performance optimization, database administration, and efficient data pipeline management.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration
- Administer and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL databases
- Monitor database performance and optimize queries
- Troubleshoot database issues and ensure high system availability
- Perform database upgrades, migrations, and routine maintenance
ETL/ELT & Data Pipeline Management
- Design, implement, and maintain ETL/ELT workflows
- Ensure accurate, reliable, and timely data movement across systems
- Investigate and resolve data pipeline failures
- Work with both structured and unstructured datasets
Data Lake Management
- Maintain and optimize Data Lake architecture
- Support partitioning strategies and efficient storage formats such as Parquet and Avro
- Ensure scalability, accessibility, and integrity of data assets
Performance Monitoring
- Monitor database health and data pipeline performance
- Identify bottlenecks and implement optimization strategies
- Maintain reliable and responsive data services
Security & Compliance
- Manage database users, permissions, and access controls
- Implement database security best practices, encryption, and auditing
- Support data governance and compliance initiatives
Backup & Disaster Recovery
- Execute and validate backup and restoration procedures
- Ensure database recoverability and business continuity
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- At least 2 to 4 years of experience as a Database Administrator, Data Engineer, or similar role
- Hands-on experience administering MySQL and PostgreSQL databases
- Strong SQL development, query optimization, and troubleshooting skills
- Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Apache Airflow, Talend, Python, or similar technologies
- Understanding of Data Lake architecture and modern data warehousing concepts
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to data integrity, security, and system reliability

Experience with:
- AWS Lake Formation
- Amazon S3
- AWS Glue
- Amazon Athena
- AWS RDS
- Amazon Aurora
- Cloud-based database infrastructure and enterprise-scale data environments
