Pharmacist – Job Description

Position Summary

The Pharmacist is responsible for preparing, dispensing, and administering appropriate pharmaceutical products to patients in accordance with physicians’ prescriptions and established healthcare standards. This role requires a high level of professional knowledge, responsibility, and patient care to ensure the safe, legal, and effective use of medications.

Beyond dispensing medications, the Pharmacist provides expert guidance to patients regarding medication use, minor health concerns, preventive care, and related healthcare products. The role also involves evaluating patient needs, maintaining regulatory compliance, and contributing to the overall quality of pharmacy operations.

The objective of this position is to promote effective medication management, deliver exceptional pharmaceutical care, and serve as a trusted healthcare resource for patients and the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, evaluate, and accurately dispense physician prescriptions, ensuring appropriateness, legality, and compliance with applicable regulations.
• Organize and maintain pharmacy inventory systems to ensure efficient identification, storage, and accessibility of medications and pharmaceutical products.
• Monitor inventory levels, product labeling, storage conditions, and expiration dates to prevent deterioration or misuse of medicines and healthcare products.
• Assess customer concerns, interpret symptoms, and provide professional advice, treatment recommendations for minor conditions, or referrals to appropriate healthcare providers when necessary.
• Provide support for basic healthcare services, including blood pressure monitoring, temperature checks, injections (where legally permitted), and other patient care services.
• Prepare and compound medications, when appropriate, using accurate dosages and materials tailored to individual patient requirements.
• Maintain accurate patient medication records, treatment history, and documentation related to controlled or regulated medications.
• Educate patients regarding medication usage, dosage, contraindications, side effects, and proper storage.
• Stay updated on pharmaceutical developments, healthcare trends, and regulatory changes through continuous professional development, training, seminars, and collaboration with healthcare professionals.
• Ensure strict compliance with legal, ethical, regulatory, and company standards governing pharmacy operations and patient safety.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional pharmacy environment to support operational efficiency and quality service delivery.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmacology, or a related field.
• Valid Professional License to practice Pharmacy.
• Proven work experience as a Pharmacist is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical dosage administration, medication interactions, chemical compounds, and medical products.
• Proficiency in pharmacy information systems and computer applications, including Microsoft Office and pharmacy management software (e.g., MediTech, Mediware, or similar systems).
• Excellent organizational and inventory management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, compassion, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
