Geologist

To provide geological and geotechnical expertise in the assessment, design, construction, and monitoring of dams and hydropower projects. The Engineering Geologist will ensure geological risks are identified, assessed, and managed effectively to support the safety, integrity, and performance of dam infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field mapping, borehole logging, and geotechnical sampling
  • Supervise drilling and in-situ testing
  • Analyze stratigraphy and hydrogeology.
  • Coordinate geophysical surveys
  • Evaluate data for foundation design

  • Advise during excavation and foundation prep
  • Monitor geological conditions during works
  • Conduct inspections and reporting

  • Identify and assess geological risks.
  • Implement risk control and monitoring strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in audits and reviews
  • Maintain documentation and traceability
  • Prepare geological and geotechnical reports
  • Document field and lab findings
  • Develop construction logs and monitoring summaries.
  • Contribute to project review and design reports
  • Communicate findings

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or Geological Engineering.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering (preferred, especially for senior roles)
  • Minimum 5–10 years' experience in hydropower, dams, tunnelling, mining, or large infrastructure projects
  • Strong experience in geological mapping, core logging, and geotechnical site investigations.
  • Proficiency in classifying rock mass (RMR, Q, GSI).
  • Knowledge of geophysical survey methods.
  • Familiarity with tunnel excavation methods (NATM/SEM) and rock support systems.
  • Understanding of foundation treatment techniques (grouting, shotcrete, anchors, drains).
  • Proven skills/knowledge in the following:

  1. Geological mapping, core logging, field inspection
  2. Rock and soil mechanics
  3. Dam design principles and foundation treatment
