Estimator

Position Summary

The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the preparation of accurate, competitive, and strategic cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role plays a critical part in securing new work, supporting preconstruction efforts, and ensuring projects are set up for financial success. The ideal candidate has strong experience estimating complex projects up to $50M and thrives in both negotiated and competitive bid environments.

Key Responsibilities

Preconstruction Leadership

• Lead estimating efforts from conceptual budgeting through final bid submission
• Collaborate with owners, architects, and internal teams during preconstruction
• Participate in client presentations and proposal development

Cost Estimating

• Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates across all trades
• Develop conceptual, schematic, design development, and GMP estimates
• Maintain and update historical cost data and unit pricing

Subcontractor & Vendor Management

• Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers
• Build and maintain strong relationships with trade partners
• Level bids and ensure complete scope coverage

Project Strategy

• Identify project risks, gaps, and opportunities
• Provide value engineering options and cost-saving strategies
• Assist in developing bid strategies for competitive advantage

Financial Accuracy & Analysis

• Ensure estimates align with project goals and margin targets
• Analyze drawings, specifications, and addenda for cost impacts
• Participate in scope reviews and estimate reviews with leadership

Handoff & Support

• Assist in project turnover to operations teams
• Provide detailed scope narratives and clarifications
• Support Project Managers with budget validation and change pricing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
• 7–12+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
• Proven ability to estimate projects up to $50M
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and systems
• Experience with both hard-bid and negotiated work

• Proficiency in estimating software (Sage Estimating, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, OST, etc.)
• Familiarity with conceptual estimating and cost modeling
