Electrical Engineer – Controls & Systems Integration

Full-Time | Remote | PST (California Time Zone)

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Electrical Engineer with experience in controls engineering, industrial automation, and systems integration to support ongoing engineering projects remotely.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with industrial electrical hardware, control panel systems, instrumentation, electrical design documentation, and coordination with vendors and project teams. This role requires hands-on familiarity with electrical equipment, motor control systems, field instrumentation, and industrial automation standards commonly used in water/wastewater and industrial projects.

This role supports engineering activities related to industrial automation and water/wastewater projects, including design review, estimation, troubleshooting, commissioning support, and technical documentation. Key Responsibilities

  • Follow and comply with customer drawing standards while collaborating with drafting vendors

  • Perform enclosure cooling, UPS load, and wireway sizing calculations

  • Prepare instrumentation, power distribution, motor starter, and control panel submittals

  • Develop interconnection and loop drawing packages, ISA datasheets, and test plans

  • Assist with engineering activities during estimation, sales, manufacturing, testing, installation, commissioning, and operations

  • Support troubleshooting and startup activities for electrical and control systems

  • Prepare project estimates using estimation tools and customer documentation

  • Conduct engineering design reviews of vendor packages and technical deliverables

  • Assist in specification, evaluation, purchasing, and inspection of electrical equipment and control systems

  • Monitor engineering quality and ensure compliance with project standards and specifications

  • Research and recommend instruments, electrical components, and assemblies suitable for project requirements

  • Prepare and evaluate system specifications and contract documents for design-build projects

  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal teams regarding technical requirements and project updates

  • Notify Engineering Manager/Supervisor regarding scope changes, scheduling concerns, and project risks

  • Assist in resolving technical issues and initiating project change orders as needed

  • Support project coordination activities including scheduling, documentation tracking, client communication, and collaboration with cross-functional teams

  • Perform other engineering-related duties assigned by management

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field is required

  • PRC Licensed Electrical Engineer is required

  • 3–5+ years of experience as a Systems Integrator, Controls Engineer, Systems Engineer, or related role

  • Previous experience working with international clients, preferably in a remote or cross-cultural work environment

  • Experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or system integration projects

  • Strong hardware experience in industrial electrical and control systems is required

  • Knowledge of control panels, MCCs, switchboards, instrumentation, and power distribution systems

  • Ability to read and interpret PLC wiring diagrams, control schematics, motor control drawings, and P&ID drawings

  • Familiarity with water/wastewater treatment industry experience is a plus

  • Strong understanding of project scope, scheduling, budgeting, and engineering documentation

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills in a remote work environment

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Willing to work during PST (California) business hours

  • Experience coordinating with clients, vendors, and internal departments in support of engineering project delivery

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multicultural and international teams

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software

  • Experience supporting commissioning and startup activities

  • Knowledge of ISA, NEC, UL508A, or industrial electrical standards

  • Demonstrates leadership potential, mentoring capability, and experience coordinating teams or project stakeholders

  • Exposure to project coordination, scheduling, and client-facing communication is highly preferred
