A pharmacist prepares and dispenses medications, provides advice on their proper use, and ensures patient safety through medication management. They collaborate with healthcare professionals to optimize therapeutic outcomes and educate patients on health and wellness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and accurately fill prescriptions.
- Counsel patients on medication usage, potential side effects, and interactions.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure appropriate medication therapies.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust prescriptions as necessary.
- Manage inventory and ensure proper storage and handling of medications.
- Stay updated on new medications, treatments, and regulations.
- Maintain compliance with legal and ethical standards in pharmacy practice.
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited program.
Licensure:
- Active pharmacist license in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Passing required exams (e.g., NAPLEX, MPJE).
Experience:
- Experience in retail or clinical pharmacy is preferred but not always required for entry-level roles.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceuticals, drug interactions, and healthcare regulations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in pharmacy management software.
