- Diagnosing Animal Health Issues: Perform physical exams, run tests, and interpret lab results to diagnose illnesses and injuries in animals.
- Treatment and Surgery: Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments; perform surgeries when necessary.
- Emergency Care: Provide urgent treatment for sick or injured animals.
- Health Education: Educate pet owners on proper animal care, nutrition, and preventive measures.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed medical records of patients, including health histories, diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes.
- Client Communication: Discuss diagnoses, treatment options, and preventative care with animal owners.
- Collaboration: Work with other veterinary professionals or specialists as needed, particularly for complex cases.
- Management: Oversee veterinary technicians, nurses, and other staff in the practice.
- Education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary school.
- Licensing: A valid veterinary license to practice in the relevant region or country.
- Compassion & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for working with animals and clients.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in diagnostics, treatment, and surgery.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work long hours, often standing, and handle animals of various sizes and temperaments.
