Installing, diagnosing, and repairing vehicle electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, ignition, and computerized control units. They use advanced diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues, repair faulty components, and install accessories like alarms or navigation systems to ensure optimal vehicle safety and performance.
- Diagnostics: Using computerized equipment, multimeters, and scanners to identify malfunctions in engines, wiring, and electrical components.
- Repair & Replacement: Fixing or replacing faulty electrical wiring, batteries, starters, alternators, and ignition systems.
- Installation: Installing new electrical wiring, accessories, and electronic components (e.g., in-car entertainment, alarms, trackers).
- Maintenance: Performing preventative maintenance, such as checking electrical systems and testing battery, charging, and lighting systems.
- Customer Service: Discussing issues with customers, providing repair estimates, and explaining technical issues.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of automotive electrical systems, circuit diagrams, and computer-controlled systems.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to identify complex electrical faults.
- Tools Proficiency: Skilled in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and soldering equipment.
- Education/Certification: Often requires a technical certificate, diploma, or completion of an automotive electrician apprenticeship.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to wiring and component installation to ensure safety.
