- A welder is responsible for joining metal parts using various welding techniques, such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding. They work in industries like construction, manufacturing, shipbuilding, and automotive repair, ensuring high-quality welds that meet safety and technical standards.
Education & Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not always required).
- Completion of a welding training program or apprenticeship.
- On-the-job training or vocational school certification in welding.
Certifications (Optional but Preferred):
- AWS (American Welding Society) Certification – e.g., Certified Welder (CW) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Certification – for pressure vessel welding.
- OSHA Safety Certification – for workplace safety compliance.
- Specialized certifications (e.g., underwater welding, pipe welding).
Technical Skills & Experience:
- Proficiency in various welding techniques:
- MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding
- TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding
- Stick welding (SMAW)
- Flux-core welding (FCAW)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
- Experience with metal cutting, grinding, and fabrication tools.
- Knowledge of different metals (steel, aluminum, stainless steel) and their welding properties.
